My Company's Training budget is severely limited. I need to understand networker on unix and windows 2000. Is there any courses out there that provide an Admin I for both. I am primarily a Windows 2000 guy. I am planning on getting some training for unix in the very near future. My question is will I be totally lost if I take the Networker 6.x Advanced Admin course? Would I be better off taking a basic unix course then take the Admin I for unix? X-)

Unless you run your Networker server on both platforms, you only need to get training on the platform of your server. It doesn't hurt to know both OS's, though. I was fortunate enough to have an instructor that preferred Unix when I took the Admin I course for NT and I had a Unix box sitting next to me.

If you have been working with Legato for a few months, you should be ok with the advanced course. If you're new, it will definitely be over your head. The Admin I course goes over the basics of the system and teaches terminology that you need to know in the advanced course.

I know some instructors read this forum and they would be able to give better advice.

If I were you, I would take the Admin II course and invest $300 to subscribe to "The Networker Journal". The Networker Journal is great for the novice and the pro. It covers topics on Unix and Windows platforms (as well as NetWare). It gives much more information than provided in both the Admin I and II courses, and it's always up to date.

cheers
