Hello,

I am planning to move the (30) Networker clients to another office location. All IP Addresses will have to change and the hostnames will remain the same. Will my Networker Server still recognize these clients even though they have different IP Addresses?

Also, if I were to move the NSR index from one Legato Server to a new rebuilt Legato Server, what impacts would there be on my (30) networker clients?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

MDC

The hostname may stay the same, but since you are changing ip, then the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) may change.

If the ip address is the only change, but network connectivity is not affected, then there should not be any problems with the client's backup. As long as the server and clients can still see each other after the ip change, based on LEGATO TECHNICAL BULLETIN 299: IP Naming in Heterogeneous Environments (UNIX | NT | NetWare | Windows 95)

Now, if the domain changes, then that complicates matters. If you leave the Networker clients with the same name, then it is not an issue, other than adding the new FQDN into the client's alias list. If you intent to also rename your client... then you may want to look at LEGATO TECHNICAL BULLETIN 138: How to Rename a NetWorker Client (UNIX),

To move the backup server, review LEGATO Technical Bulletin
121: Moving a UNIX NetWorker Server, Also follow tech bulletin 299 again to make sure you have netowrk connectivity with your clients.

You can move client indexes but the media db is the problem. I would
do the following:

- Establish a copy of that server at new location
- Delete all unnecessary clients
- Rename the server
