Networker 6.1 on a Sun Solaris 2.8 machine and an external HP Ultrium 230 tape drive, I have been having one heckuva time getting the tape unit to work correctly. I believe it has to do with the st.conf settings and the block size. It appears that Networker is switching between a 64k and 32k block size, and the tape unit (or software) does not like this. During mid-backup of a few directories, it will get maybe 6-9 files in, and then will return a "I/O error, at file 7 record 7850" "Block size is 32768 bytes not 65536 bytes. Verify the device configuration. Tape positionging by record is disabled." I believe this error may be when the software is trying to reposition the tape expecting 64KB block size, and during a read it is erroring out. Does anyone else have this combination working with
Here is the st.conf settings I have tested.
# tested and causes errors - LTO_Ultrium = 1,0x36,32768,0x9639,1,0,0;
and here are the other settings that I have tested:
# tested and causes errors - LTO_Ultrium = 1,0x36,65536,0x9639,1,0,0;

Thanks in advance for any advice/help/suggestions.

PS: If I change the device from an LTO to a DLT, will this change the volume block size in Legato from 64KB to 32KB? Thanks again.
