I have one server that is a MySQL server that makes constant changes to a few select files on the system. Would this prevent the backup from occurring? And if so, how does one changing this senerio?

Thanks,

This will not prevent the backup to run but it will result
in errors on these files if they cannot be accessed. And of
course the data sets will be inconsistent.

You may
- either shutdown the db prior to the backup
- or use the appropriate NW SQL module

A tool like Open File Manager will most likely not help due
to the fact that a db also keeps a lot of data in RAM. If
this has not been save to a file yet, it will at least be
missing later or it will harm the whole db installation.

Is the NW SQL Module included in the NW software package? Does it require a separate license? How long is the estimated time required for the db to be shutdown?

Thanks,

SQL module is a separate product (from Legato) that requires it's own license. I don't know if it works with mySQL though.

That's not going to make the client (or my CEO) very happy :-( I guess the next best thing would be to shut the db services down to do the backups. Anyone have an idea of how long a Win2K server with two 40GB drives might be down for to do the backups?

Thanks,

Just calculate it upon the backup speed your drives can
offer: 1 MB/s = 3.6 GB/h.

Example: 2 x DLT7000 = 2 x 5 MB/s = 36 GB/h
