I have a cluster of 7 networked sites

they are set with a meshed network of Xnet IP trunks

all is ok for calls between the sites except for 2

site 5 has no direct Ip connectivity between it and site 6
it can access all other sites
site 6 can access all other sites

I tried changing the Ars to route calls from 5 to 6 via site 1
Successfull calls can be made from 5 to 6 to the embedded voicemail

If a call is made from an ip phone on site 5 to an ip phone on site 6 the call sets up but there is no speech.

I thought that with xnet trunks the voice traffic was routed via the trunk ?
Is it peer to peer instead? this would explain why there is no voice traffic perhaps?

The other problem I have is both of these sites are in another country and the carrier ( wan provider) is not very helpful .

If a call is made from an ip phone on site 5 to an ip phone on site 6 the call sets up but there is no speech.

When the call is connected, Call control drops off and the call is handled Peer to Peer (Set to Set)

Make sure the sets have to correct gateways and that the Gateways have the proper routing to allow these devices to talk to one another.

What's most important is that you realise ... There is no spoon.

If you do a wireshark trace on a IP phone on controller A and another IP phone on controller b ( connected via IP trunks ). You see that once the call is established you get RTP packets going directly between the IP addresses of both of the phones. The Controllers are no longer involved in the call other then to check if the conversation is still going on. If the call is between an IP and a TDM device then the streaming will be from the IP of the set to the IP of the 3300 containing the TDM device.

The single biggest problem with communications is the illusion that it has taken place.

Yeah thats what i thought and i fooled myself cos I was using a UCA softphone registered to Site5 and could call the site6.

Then I realised I was vpn'd into the central hub of their network that can see all sites and so my voice traffic was from there to site 6 ....
