I have a computer with more than enough resources to run indesign CS 3.01 perfectly. If i start the computer with no network plugged in it runs great. If i start the computer with a network connection than InDesign runs horridly.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Micah A. Norman

You could describe your operating system and the type of network that you use. You could also describe if you are opening documents through the network or if the program runs slow simply because you are on the network.

It was recently brought to my attention that several of my users are having this very same problem. They all have dual 2 GHz G5 Macs with 4 GB SDRAM and giant hard drives. The network is gigabit ethernet with an SGI server running Xinet FullPress which is where all linked image files reside. They place the low res proxy files on their layouts so they shouldn't even be dealing with large image files across the network. The main thing they notice is when clicking into the Finder or another app's open window and then back to InDesign the tool palette and all other little info windows take several seconds to redraw themselves and InDesign is unresponsive. We ran Activity Monitor and noted that anytime this was going on there was a large spike in network activity. Unplugging the network cable confirmed this seemed to be the problem area as it disappeared until we plugged it back in.
Does any one know why this happens and if anyone has a fix, I'd love to hear it!!
Thanks!
