I have my SCO 5.0.5 configured in my local network, in the 192.168.1.1 address, and it works fine.
Now I need to accept incoming telnets and ftp on my SCO via Internet.
To accept incoming telnets, i do this, and it works ok. :

- add route default my_router_ip
(my_ip_router is configured to accept incoming calls and redirect it to 192.168.1.1)

This works fine, but, ... It is correct, or is dangeroux to do this. Any other think best to do this ?.

2nd. question:
A have one other SCO, and it works fine with the local network, but when I do the same (route add default my_ip_router), I have the error message :

Network unreachable.

Why ?. What's wrong ?. I have re-installed the NIC, but its'n solved !. Can anyone help me ?.

Thank you. Fonso.

1) That's correct, but you should make it only forward certain protocols (if possible) and you have your system protected with tcpwrappers, etc.

2) Have you tried pinging your default router before adding the route? The default router must be on the local network and you should be able to ping it before adding any routes. Annihilannic.

Use your netstat -nr and look at your routing table and also look at your arp -a ARP table. This should give a clue of your network. Create a text file that contains your add route default xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, I put mine in /usr/local/bin/waddroute. Forcing a default route by going to /etc/rc2.d/Sroute put your path to your file in it. This is a sure fire way to add route.
