Running Mandrake linux with sendmail 8.11.2 running on it. Inside IP address is staitcally natted through a Cisco 1605R to an outside ip address. We also run dynamic nat to offer internet access to our employees.
The sendmail server works well - provided you are in-house. When connecting to the server from outside IP addresses, you can download mail fine. You cannot send any email at all. There is, apparently, no connection taking place.
We have an ACL on the router that blocks the private address, and another that maps the private address to the public address. Cisco insists that this is the way to do dynamic and static mapping simultaneously. Feature pack is 56K/IP+/firewall.
What I need to know is, is there some oversight here? Why can't we send mail through the sendmail server? Is it something in the NAT tables? Is it a port that must be explicitly allowed through the firewall?
If this isn't enough info, just respond, and I'll elaborate with requested information.
This is a great forum, although this is my first post (and first sendmail server). If anyone can help, you guys can. All help is graciously appreciated. TIA.
