Network traffic monitor

Hi all,

I am wanting to write a small app that will tell me how many bytes were sent and received over my network connection. I'm not looking for anything fancy, like monitoring ports - just bytes in and bytes out (like the network icon in Win2k)

Any ideas ? I have no idea where to start, and would appreciate some help.
