We are having an issue with one of our T1 circuits that is slipping. We have contacted the phone company, and they told us the problem was that they were not providing us with timing and we needed to time our own devices.

What we have is a 7200 series router as the core and our remote site is connected via T1 to a 3745. I need to be able to make the 7200 provide timing to the 3745 across the point to point link. I am pretty sure I just do a "clock source line primary" on the 3745 to tell it to get timing from the link, but how to I make the 7200 provide it?

Thanks.

The 3745 should default to getting the clocking from the line. Not sure on the 7200 but on other Cisco routers on the T1 serial interface you would just need

service-module t1 clock source internal

The 7200 likely has a T1 controller module, so on the controller T1 slot in question it is simply:

clock source internal

In a private line set up I would agree there would be no clock per se on the line. Then one end should indeed be set for internal clocking. However depending on what's on the other side of the connection I could debate the clock and who should be the source of it.
