Network synching from Palm V modem

I am trying to set up a synch with a networked PC via PPP dial-up. The dial-up from the Palm modem works fine and I am able to log on, but the Palm cannot find my PC despite knowing it's hostname and IP config. The on-line help sites this as common and says it is due to the Palm not being configured for DNS, so I did exactly that and the problem is still there. Also the synch log tells me nothing. I would be grateful for any ideas.
