Hello!

At a location with 21 5610 phones, and about 30 pc's / servers, we're looking to upgrade the network switch to better handle QOS/vlan traffic.

Among 48 port POE switches, I'm leaning toward an HP ProCurve, but the differences in the ProCurve line are confusing.

Considering HP E3500-48G-PoE yl Switch (J8693A)

Any thoughts? This location will act as "main office" to other remote VPN'ed locations.

Being new to switch programming, HP's GUI seems less intimidating than something like cisco's IOS.

Thanks!

Cisco 500 series are web managed and do POE, so check them out, doubt they are cheap though in comparison :)

HP is good stuff.

honey, i fried the IP Office !!!

Sarcasm, it's only one of the services I offer.

In fact the Cisco 500's are much cheaper than the HP Procurves, so they may still be an option, also Zyxel do a cheap POE that supports vlan's, don't know how they perform though :)

We do HP, 3Com, Cisco and Extreme Networks.
They're all the same, and work all very well.
I prefer HP because it's very easy to setup.

For those who didn't know this feature in the HP

1) log in (console, telnet, SSH, etc.) to the CLI
2) type “edomtset” and hit <enter>
3) type “edomtset” and hit <enter> (yes, again)
4) the prompt will change from “#” to “$”

Now press help....:)

Be carefull, you can break the switch by changing stuff here.

I've deployed the last few with Avaya/Nortel switches. A bit tricky to configure properly but cheaper then cisco.
LLDP works perfectly with the (new) 16xx and 96xx sets.

I'd only go for HP is pricing is an issue.

Thanks for the feedback & Happy Thanksgiving to those state-side!
