Hi all.We have a basic class C network sitting behind a firewall. The vast majority of PC's on our LAN have 10/100 Mb NIC's but a few only support the slower speed. The whole network appears to be running at 10 Mb/sec.Can anyone tell me how the speed of the LAN is determined and what i can do to force it to run at the faster speed. We have a couple of hubs which are a bit old now, they are ExpressSwitch Hub's (FHSW-2602A).Despite their age they appear to support the faster speed. Thanks for reading.Hope you can help...

Hi... in the network icon under the control panel, try selecting your network card and click on properties.. there is a link speed/duplex mode setting. you could use 100mbs either half duplex or full duplex. If your hub has an indicator (usually something lights up) then you will know if a PC is running on 100mb/s or not.
... hope i this helps.

There must be button on hub for 100mb speed. If there is not it means your hub is autosense;try next:
1.disconnect 10mb/s NICs and on 10/100 mb NICs set autosense.
Does it work?
2.If it does not work, disconnect all computers and reset
hub. Then plug in one by one(first 10/100 and 100) and notice moment in wich speed falls on 10 mb/s.Of course first be sure that hub supports 100mb/s.

Hope it helps. Sleew

Hi Stevieboy,

I can't find your switched hub on Planet's homepage. But from the
little I can find, they have 2 10/100 uplink ports, the other ports are
at 10. The "switch" function is apparently between the 10 ports and
the 10/100 uplink ports.

The machines on the 10 ports are gonna run at 10, no way
around it. If you have servers on these devices, just be sure to put
them in one 10/100 port and uplink to the rest of the network with
the other 10/100 port.

If the 100 link LED and the full duplex LED do not light, you may have
to hard set the port on the switch to 100/full, and also the nic on the
server. I don't think the 10 ports support full duplex.

If the other uplink port does not connect to the rest of the network at
100/full, you may have auto-sensing (old technology)on one end and
auto-negotiating (new technology) on the other end. You'll have to
hard set the ports on both switches to 100/full.
