Hi guys

I do the network admin for a company with approx. 70 desktops on a 100mbit network with 2 file servers. One of the staff was recently told by a slaesman that our network seemed "slow" to him when he came in to show off some software for use with acad. As I have not kept up with the trends in Autocad / file size etc, I do not know what a good/average benchmark would be for opening files across a network.

I have run some tests, opening a test acad drawing (2000 format)at 29mb in size on a group of 5 diff pc's.

The file opens in about 10 sec's from the C drive of the PC's, and from either server in about 17 secs. This includes regen time as well. The Pc's are all P4-1800 to 2400's with 256/512 ram.

Can anybody tell me if this is good/bad/average?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

regards,
Brett

10 seconds is not bad for a 30mb drawing. You could get quicker but I doubt it is worth the expense upgrading the network infrastructure.

You are probely better off streamlining your drawings. Most 2D drawings need not be over about 5mb

I got mailed a 62mb file that I got down to 3mb last week, most of this was badly scaled hatching!

Pete.
