Hi,

I am encountering a rather odd issue.

When creating a network share on our Windows 2003 file server, and adding user permissions I encounter an issue:

If I add individuals to the share then it seems fine. However if I use a security group it takes about 12 hours before it works....

I am assuming it is some sort of replication issue within AD, but for the life of me I cannot figure out where to look.

Many thanks.

Replication is done in sites and services, NTDS Settings

If I recall in Win2K, when the group is large to begin with, it will replicate the entire group membership list and not just the one change. In Win2K3 only the changes are replicated. So if you have a large group and relatively slow links, then you will see this behaviour.

Cheers,

There are 3 domain controllers, 2 that are 2003 and the last is 2000. I plan on demoting the later one to see if this is the cause. Especially as I have seen a number of replication errors in its event log.

KR,

If you are removing the W2K DC then remember to change the domain level to W2003 from W2K afterwards. If not you won't get the nice bits of W2003 AD like the group deltas mentioned above.
