I have broadband coming in to a D-Link DI-604 Router/Gateway and one patch cable going from the D-Link to a NetGear DS-108 switch. I have 7 computers plugged into the DS-108 which uses up all the available ports. All my computers use static IP addresses. I want to add to the network another computer and a Toshiba e-Studio 550 network ready copier/printer, both of wich are configured for static IP addresses. My question is: can I use two of the three open ports on the D-Link to extend my network and will I have to change any settings in the DI-604 or the DS-108? One thing that is confusing to me is that the DI-604 distinctly says "gateway" on it (not router) byt the D-Link web site calls it a router. Does it matter for my network?

You should be able to add further switches/hubs to the D-Link as long as a port is available. One thing you may have to do is use a cross over cable to make this connection as standard SOHO devices usually only have one uplink port.

Always remember where cabling is concerned:- like to like = crossover

2 different devices normally = straight through

Reamin positive. The affect on those around you will amaze.

I'd rather not add anothe device.
Can't I just use the open ports on the D-LInk?

It should work fine. Why not do a test. Pull one of your existing computer from the hub thats full and plug into one of the open ports. Run a few tests. It'll work fine
