I have a dsl modem which has a single ethernet feed to my set-top box which requires a DHCP address from my ISP. The internet connection from the dsl modem goes to my PC via USB. I want to be able to connect a D-Link 624 wireless router to the PC which will then relay the internet connection to my wireless laptops.

Because the modem only has one ethernet output I can't hook up the D-Link in the way proscribed in the user guide. Is there any workaround?

thats the idea of the router, it takes one connection and turns it into many. I think what you want to do is get a network card or a usb to ethernet adapter, so you can use the network connections and do away with the usb cable from modem to computer.

very easy set up, modem to router, router to pc and set top (wireless) your computer wont give you the internet access the modem and router do. The modem gives you ip address and the router suplies a dhcp ip address to both your pc and set top.

thanks

so the idea is that the set-top box still gets its DHCP address direct from the modem and I convert the usb cable to ethernet and go into the router with that. correct?

Your hardware should be wall >> DSL modem >> router >> computers. The modem gives an IP address to the router, the router assigns LAN IP addresses to the computers.
