I'm trying to set up an adhoc network between a laptop and a desktop and not doing too well. The desktop is running XP Pro with a Linksys USB wireless, and the laptop is running 2000 Pro with a Dlink PCMCIA card. I have 2 networks defined on the desktop - an infrastructure (which I am using now) and an adhoc. The laptop only has the adhoc. On the desktop I can see the laptop in the network hierarchy, but I can't connect to it. I am signed on as administrator on both computers, and both computers have unlimited sharing defined on the c folder. From the laptop I can get to the desktop folders, but not vice versa. I'm stumped - have no idea where to even begin. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -- Ham

Ad Hoc as the type on both sides.
Same SSID
Same channel
Same WEP or any other encryption settings

Infrastructure implies a connection to an access point (or wireless router/ access point), so you need to define Ad Hoc on both clients.
