Network Resource Resolution - Broadcast not DNS!

The network is 95 clients connecting to an NT 4 network with 2 seperate domains. IP addressing is handled by a single DHCP server which also provides WINS. Entries for WINS server, DNS server (on remote network) and default gateway are within the scope options. When pinging a specific IP address the resolution is OK. When pinging the name e.g. eduproxy the address is resolved but after around 25 seconds. This is the same for lcoal and remote resources. My guess is that this is broadcasting first then going to DNS / LMHOSTS second. The settings for WINS are all correct with node type set to Hybrid (0x8). WINIPCFG however still showed the clientnode type as Broadcast. Altered as Technet suggest via a key in the registry to force the node type to hybrid but no change.
Any suggestions appreciated. I have less hair every day,
Cheers, Andy

Hello,

for win95 there is a checkmark use WINS from DHCP under the WINS-Tab in the Network Configuration. Also check if there is a WINS added manually and overwrites the DHCP-Settings
