Im beginner to Redhat Linux, how can i network with windows 2000 professional. I have 3 pc. 2pcs installed with win2k prof and been networked. Now i hav 1 pc in which i hav installed redhat 9 and i want it to be networked with w2k pcs. how can i do it?

is samba a add-on software or redhat linux has built in?

It's included on your distribution CD/DVD. Samba comes in 3 parts;

1. The server part (allow Windows to connect to you)
2. The client part (allow you to connect to Windows)
3. SWAT (Samba Web Administration Tool)

On a typical install, only the server part is installed (I think).

string cables?
Are your machines even fitted with network cards?
Do you have a hub or router?

I'm running Ubuntu (so not RH) and it was simply a matter of making sure all machines have an IP address set up on the LAN and telling all machines which (in my case the Win2K machine) is the gateway.
On the Win2K machine set up internet connection sharing and create a user account for the *nix users in order to use the printer.
On the *nix machines Samba client came preinstalled so all I needed was to add a network printer (haven't tried accessing shared drives yet, don't think it'll work anyway as I use NTFS for which Linux support is flaky).

I hav a network fitted on this linux pc. there is another pc with win2000 . These both pcs are connected via hub
