OK, now it has been some time since I did anything like this…

We are rebuilding our network here at work. Currently we have 2 servers. Server A is the PDC, it also host exchange, file shares and ISA (Proxy and firewall). The second server is a BDC with our SQL server and file shares. To relieve the load from server 1 we are adding a soho router/firewall.

OK since I am running ADS I know the DNS needs to be on the PDC. I can also set up forwards to the DNS outside of the company. No problem.

Here are my questions

DHCP.. does that need to be on the PDC or can the router handle that?

My guesses for the DHCP config info it
Gateway: Router
IP: Assign
DNS: PDC

Ok I need to lay off the coffee…

DHCP server does not needto be on a PDC , the only this is that is you are upgrading to Active Director you will need to authorize the server.

moust router will need to enable dhcp relay agent to pass through them , in my case we have setup Bootp to pass the packets over to our seperate networks
