network "clogging" when running backup

I'm investigating BE 8.6 as a network backup solution, and I'm running into a little issue. When I run BE to backup systems across the network, I start getting packet collisions on my switch, and start to have problems getting out into the internet or in from the internet (I have a web server, email server and SQL2000 server).. Has anyone run into this issue? Is there any way to "slow down" the backup so that it allows other traffic on the network? Is this just simply an issue with my network switch? (All the systems have 10/100 cards, and all are indicated as 100Mbit)

Any ideas are appreciated.

Try scheduling the backup jobs after hours. Also, are you using the Remote Agent to do backups? BE 8.6 will remotely backup unlimited numbers of workstation versions of Windows at no cost. Any server versions will require a license purchased per server. The Remote Agent when installed sends back a bit stream to the Backup Exec server during backups and restores. This greatly reduces network traffic and speeds backups/restores.

dirt255: Yes, I am using the remote agent. (I did not mention it because I was not aware that you could back up without using it).. I have done a little bit of process of elimination work. It appears that this problem only occurs when I back up my HP laptop, which has a 10/100 network card built in. I did try using an older version of the driver to see if that took care of the problem, but it didn't. I then plugged in a PCMCIA ethernet card that I have (only 10mbs though), and the problem does not happen using that card to attach to the network (but since I'm at 10mbs and not 100, I still can't be sure that it's not the remote agent)...It's strange that the collisions happen when there is no other activity on the network, except the backup. Could it be a problem with the remote agent, versus a problem with the network card (the network card does not seem to exhibit any other kind of problems, and I've been using it for a year now)... Any Ideas?
