experts,

i'm trying to connect our newly installed SCO-UNIX in our network. i was able to provide the following info but unfortunately, i still can not connect to our network:

local hostname
IP address
netmask
broadcast address
domain name
TCP connection (default)
pseudo tty (default)

when i clicked "advanced option", i got this window:

gateway ^yes ^no

administrator for this system:
location of this system:
frame format: ethernet II

am i missing something?

how am i going to restart the portmapper? i checked in log file and its down.

would be glad to hear any help.

It seems as though an incorrect driver is loaded for the adapter. What is the adapter? What is the response when you attempt to ping 127.0.0.1 (or the IP you set) from SCO.

Portmapper will start correctly when the network is configured right. Your adapter issue is causing portmapper to not start.

thanks chikn...

i have a 3COM ETHERLINK III PCI (3C590) @:

PCI Bus 0, Device 11, Function 0

i can ping loopback @ 127.0.0.1 successfully.

under network configuration, what broadcast address means? is it the same as the gateway address?

sorry, im new to SCO.

Pinging 127.0.0.1 tells you absolutely nothing about the network card.

You can obtain updated drivers for your card from ftp://ftp.caldera.com/pub/openserver5/drivers

See for a better understanding of tcp/ip in general.

If you are connecting to an existing network, you need to know what the netmask in use is. That will determine the broadcast address automatically. Setting the gateway address is covered by faq58-1436 here.

If you are setting up a new network, see and maybe it would help you to read that anyway. Tony Lawrence
