I am having problems connecting one of the computers to a network. I am currently running two computers:
Pentium(r) 166
Windows 98 Upgrade
32 MB Ram
w/ NDC 10/100 FE Adapter
and
AOpen system w/ Pentium III 733
Windows 98 SE
128 MB Ram
w/ Realtek 8139 PCI FE NIC
they are connected using a:
NetGear 10 Base-T Ethernet Hub model: EN104 tp
I am having problems with the Pentium 166. I am trying to connect to an internet service using a Hub with an uplink port. I am currently using Shaw@Home cable internet, which provides Dynamic IP Addresses, and I have been assigned two "Computer name"s. Both ID's and both Network Adapter Cards are working, as I have tested all of them on the "Pentium III". However, nothing seems to work on the "Pentium 166". I have been un-able to connect to the internet using the Pentium 166 with neither the hub, nor with a direct connection to the cable modem.
Both Adapters are PnP.
The discrepencies are that when I run "winipcfg", the "Pentium III" provides my network adapter name correctly:
"Realtek 8139-series PCI NIC"
while "winipcfg" in the "Pentium 166" provides this:
"PCI Master Bus Adapter"
Does this information point to any problems?
I have tried un-installing the Network Adapter Card in the "Pentium 166", and re-installing with out results. I have also tried using "update driver" with the original and an updated version of the drivers for the NDC 10/100 FE Adapter. However, everything stays the same as I have stated above.
If you have any idea or input, it would be much appreciated.
Thank You for your time and patience.
