Hi,

I have a switched network consisting of Gigabit and 100Mbps switches. They are Dell and 3-coms. A couple of days ago I got this weird problem where people couldn't connect to some network resources. In fact they can't even ping those servers. It was intermitant and external access to the internet and our remote office was not affected. I discovered that local names to IP addresses could be resolved but not the IP to MAC's. You had to do a arp -s to manually update the cache. I reset the local router, but no improvement. Any ideas to what it could be and tools to narrow down the problem?

Are the switches managable ? Sounds like you are dropping ports or losing connectivity.
Did the ARP table in the router maintain the address during this problem?
