We have a networked printer a HP LaserJet P4515tn. A user is trying to print from the manual feed tray. However some issues, firstly this is a 5 tray printer and there is only tray 1 and the manual feed tray available. Secondly the A4 option is also not available in the printer paper type properties. If I print to the manual feed it states the size is outside the printable area (in MS Word, also no A4 option) in any case it doesnt print properly of course. All other users who print to this printer dont have this problem, they can see all 5 trays and can print to the manual feed using the same document without any issues. I also noticed after reinstalling the printer that tray 3,4,5 became available yet when i selected them it gave one of those 0xx memory reference errors (not sure exact as i clicked ok and now cant replicate the issue) however these trays are now not available.
Happy to clarify further, hope somebody can help?

Any time Ive had issues with a networked printer install here, or malfunction, a complete uninstall and follow through with something like CCleaner to remove any old reg entries then a fresh reinstall from known good media or fresh download usually does the trick. I've had stubborn installs/uninstalls that I have had to go into the registry and remove the entries pertaining to that printer and then reinstall before proper function.

Are you sure the computer in question is functioning properly? Tested HDD, RAM, sfc /scannow or chkdsk /r? Restore to a previous time when the printer worked ok?

Thats fair enough but the printer works fine for other users without issue. The document in question was emailed to another user who printed it off the bat first time without any issues. It is something on this particular users machine maybe? I am goin to try to login as me and test it (user too busy for me at present) then feedback with the results. With the 0xx reference error as well does point to this pc no?

If everyone else that prints to the same printer is working fine, then yes, this appears to be either a software(printer install, driver, redirection) issue or a possible hardware(hard drive, RAM, NIC).

Post the error code when you get a chance and yes trying a new user would also be a good idea although if the install is malfunctioning, it should do the same error as on the current user.

Many thanks, I will be logging on tomorrow morning and testing again with my user id, i wil post the error again. Thank you.

In addition, when I am in Word and click on print then properties the 5 trays dont come up, i have to change the paper size to a4 then i can see the 5 trays come up, however when i click on any tray from 3 to 5 it gives a word has encountered errors message and restarts word. i have reinstalled office as well and reinstalled the printer. I have logged in as me and as admin but the problem is the same. any ideas?

Im still leaning towards a bad software printer install. Does it throw the same error when printing from a non-Office program like Notepad or if OpenOffice is installed, printing from it?

ok, I maybe inclined to agree with you, however, the printer is only added and removed using the add network printer mapping function. It is the same method used on other users machines as well, which may not be the software?

What is the make, model, and OS on the machine that doesn't function properly?

OS is Windows XP, machine is a desktop, HP Compaq

I would uninstall the printer and try a different NIC card just to be sure that the NIC interface is functioning properly. Hopefully you or your IT dept have a spare laying around.
