hi,
I have to setup several network printers, for win2k workstations. Setting them as network printers is a pain, since it has to be done for each independent user (its not practical when you have 10 users sharing one workstation). Copying the settings to the Default User Folder does not seem to work with roaming profiles, and also, for it to work, new local users profiles need to be created.
What i have done is set up the printers as local ones, by creating local ports in the form \\servername\printername and then install the driver locally. It seems to work, but what i am concerned is: does it creates considerably more traffic in teh LAN than the network option?. What are the advantages/disadvantages of using this method?
I know that, with JetAdmin local ports, printers seem to 'dissapear' from the network, and go offline for no apparent reason (I suspect it may be heavy network traffic, since our LAN is only 10Mb - not switched). Will the same happen if i use local ports?
Thanks heaps
