Network printer printing duplicates

On a Windows 2000 print server, one of my networked HP color printers keeps printing duplicates. It will print, then a couple of days later, it will print the same thing again. Even if I clear the queue, and stop and restart the spooler service, it keeps happening. It happens from many users, not just one.

Is this a new to the network print server? Is there an old one still on the system?

Did you try moving the print spool to a new location?

What did HP say?

Yes, it's a new to the network print server. The old one is gone. I haven't tried moving the print spool to a new location. Where do you mean? Will there be any problems in moving it?

I don't have support with HP, they want $ to assist me. I was hoping someone here could assist me.

Does it do this for all print jobs or just from one or more selected applications?

Did you check the HP troubleshooting for your printer model to see if any issues there? I have found that certain HP Deskjets will BSOD my server if they are connected to the network.

What about the drivers? Are you using updated drivers? If yes, have you tried a "dummied down" or earlier version of a driver. I have some newer HP printers that the driver does not function well on our NT system but if I use a more generic driver i.e. laserjet4, they work just fine.

And it's just this printer, not all the printers, correct?

This may be happening if the print controller is not sending a "job end" back to its internal HD. If there is a jam, for instance, the HD will send the job again.
Take a look in the Printer error log, if available.
Is it connected to the nw or to a networked comp?
