My color printer (USB Epson 980) sits on my file storage PC (WinXP sp2) and was named by XP automatically when during a recent upgrade from Win2K.
The new name appeares as "Auto Epson color 980 ESC/2 P"
On this (my own desktop PC - Win XP sp2 also) I deleted the 'old' Win2k supplied network connection for the printer and used the wizard to connect to the 'new' name provided.
In day to day to work, selecting this printer works OK.
I went to update my printing macros in Word 2002 and recorded a new test macro to obtain the new name of the activeprinter supplied by the network.
I then cut and pasted the newname ("Auto Epson color 980 etc" in place of the old one within the macro.
However when run, the macro reports "printer error" and cans out (no debug option shown).
I double check the name, the quotes etc. Nothing wrong noticed.
I then see that for the B&W laser macro I have used "//otherpc/laserprintername" rather than just the network name.
I thus change the color print macro to read activeprinter = "//server/Auto Epson Color etc".
The macro now runs, albeit very slowly, but when the printdialog box opens up the printer name box is blank.
Any clues anyone as to the problem?
