Hello Everyone,

I have 2 printers connected to a jet direct box (static IP) I want to include these printers via a login script using active directory.

How can I do this --- the net use lpt seems not to work.
Or can i do it thru group policy?

Thank you very much for any insight on this issue.

Hi,
MS doesn't provide much to help you here. After some research, we decided on KIXTART to deliver our printers on user logins. In a pure Win2k environment, the executable (KIX32.exe) sits in the netlogon share of all the DC's as well as the actual kix script.

Using it is easy and free. Download the latest build here:

To use it, install and share the printers on your server. Next create a kix script that looks like this:

AddPrinterConnection ("\\servername\printer1")
AddPrinterConnection ("\\servername\printer2")
SetDefaultPrinter ("\\servername\printer1")
Exit
Next, use your user portion of the GPO to call the script:

\\dcname\netlogon\kix32.exe \\dcname\netlogon\addprinter.kix

We've been using this method to deliver our printers for over 2 years now without ANY issues.

Best,
Marty

Thanks Marty,

I will try it soon.
I appreciate your help on this one.
