Network Performance with Pervsaive ODBC

I have upgraded from Crystal v7 to CRXI Professional, and have converted existing reports, which previously used direct access via ddfs, to use ODBC.

Installed on user's site yesterday. When I ran the first report other users on the network, using the application from which I am extracting data, all started complaining bitterly that the system had suddenly slowed down dramatically. I canned the report and everything returned to normal.

This particular site is using the Pervasive Client/Server database engine. I set up an ODBC data source using the Engine Interface on the server and the Client Interface on the work-station. It all seems to work fine apart from the performance problem.

I would appreciate any advice on where to start tackling this. Is it likely to be a Crystal Issue, an ODBC Setup issue, a network/server issue??

All feedeback appreciated.

Sounds like it's doing record locking to me.

Not sure how you fix that with the Pervasive driver, might be a setting on the ODBC driver.

Its not a crystal issue, its a Pervasive issue. Pervasive just pretends it is relational and can be accessed through ODBC, the performance for complex queries is not very good, the optimizer and query planner do not do their jobs very well. I fight this issue every day, we login at about 10pm to run our monthly crystal reports without users on the system.
