I am "playing" with a Smithsonian relic -- NEC Ready 7020 with unknown motherboard, Phoenix 2/8/95 system BIOS. There are two PCI slots but no mention in NEC manual of 2.1 PCI compliancy. When I attemp to install Microsoft MN-130 PCI Adapter or Belkin F5D5000 PCI Adapter, windows finds and installs the necessary driver(s) but when I restart, the Win98SE system will not boot.

Is it probable that the PCI compliancy issue is my culprit?

Is there any available PCI adapter that will install on this relic?

Thanks much. Staunton, Virginia, USA

Hehehe - relic? I have original IBM 5150 PC's (with the cassette port) and XT's in use here as well as Commodore 128D, NEC portable 286 machine and old IBM PS/2 series. I have an old Dell 4066/XE server in use as a file server too (soon to be pulled to be replaced with an IBM PC Server 330 w/dual PII-266's)...only a relic if it's beyond your experience level (not a slam, just a norm with many people).

It's only obsolete if it's broken beyond repair and no longer has a use for anyone in any form.

Thanks for the post. You do indeed have relics.

I posted using "relic" in an attempt to discourage some of the slams I usually receive for not moving with technology.

Your quote could never be more correct -- "It's only obsolete if it's broken beyond repair and no longer has a use for anyone in any form."

I must remember that one! Staunton, Virginia, USA

I guess from a practical point of view the obvious would be to pick up an older card from a computer fair or similar that is likely to be compliant. Martin Replying helps further our knowledge, without comment leaves us wondering.
