I have a network of about 10 computers and I have 2 that don't seem to want to talk to each other. I get "network path was not found". Every other computer on the network can talk to each other and can talk to my 2 delinquints.

I am trying 2 things (neither work):
1) to add a network place. (Not the end goal, but demonstrates connectivity)
2) connect to an SQL server via the admin tool Data Sources (ODBC) - Both machines have SQL Server 2005 that holds different data. I've tried TCP/IP and named pipes.

I'm pretty sure it's not a general setting or hardware problem, because the other computers on the network can talk to the trouble makers.

I'm using Windows 2000 Advanced Server.

Thanks!

can you provide more info, such as are ip addressess assigned manually etc and setup of your network.

i would suggest first from the info provided that you try a traceroute from one pc to another from the command prompt, this may indicate where the problem lies.

the instinct i have is that there is an entry in the hosts file for either computer that is incorrect (if hosts file is amended)

Basically we have 2 networks, one (A) for servers and one (B)for office folk. There are SQL servers on both networks that previously didn't need to talk to each other, but now do. So we added a network card to the server on network B that needs to talk to the other servers on network A.

My co-worker found the core of the problem. On the machine that seems to be causing the issues, both networks are 192.168.0.*. We are trying to change one network to 192.168.10.* but windows still ins't quite happy with it.

I previously tried to run tracert and ping and both timed out. We havn't edited the host file and are pretty much running default settings.

I'd appreciate any feedback. (No, I didn't desgin the network, just get to maintain it.)
I'll keep you posted.
