I posted this in another forum and they refered me to this one.

I have a LAN set up with windows xp. Peer to peer. When I access another computer I have to login with username and password. However, when I close the windows explorer window and then go back into network to access this computer again I do not have to login again. How do I make it so each time I will have to enter the user name and password.

Thanks

Clear any cached credentials, and next time you logon, tell XP not to remember your password etc. See below.

There is a "Manage Passwords" section obtained via typing Control Userpasswords2 in the Start Run box. In the resulting window you will get to it via the Advanced tab.

See if there is anything mentioned in "Manage Passwords"?

Another thing you can look at is this -

306541 - HOW TO: Manage Stored User Names and Passwords on a Computer That Is Not in a Domain in Windows XP

Behavior of stored user names and passwords

Share-level mapped network drives are not connected after you restart your computer

I tried the userpasswords2 and there were no passwords saved under manage passwords.

Thanks for your reply I searched your links and found another link to

url:
Stored User Names and Passwords Credentials Are Stored for the Lifetime of the Logon Session

It pretty much says that the password is by design kept until restart or loggoff.

I am going to create a bat file I think that use net use to delete the connection. This allows me to have to re-enter the password when I try to access the network computer again.

If anyone else has some ideas of a work around. please let me know

What's the benefit to you? I'm just trying to figure out why you would want it to ask you for a password every time?

As long as you are authenticated, who cares if that authentication lasts for your entire session?

Thanks,

I do not have a screensaver password or a login password on my computer and I work in an area with multiple people have access to my computer and I do not want someone to get on my computer and access the files from the other computer on the network, since they are not able to log in to that computer.

The files on my computer do not have to be kept "confidential" that is why we use another computer to keep all the "confidentail" files on.

So I want to make sure if I access some files and the leave for break or go home or whatever, then I will not be logged on to the network computer.

I just lock my computer when I get up from it. (I use the WIN-L key combo, or ctrl-alt-del then the K key to lock). It's become a habit for me now so I don't have to worry about others gaining access to stuff through my unattended computer.

I think you're going to have to start getting used to doing something like that (or log-off) since the credentials you enter are valid for your entire session.

Good luck,
