We have one linux machine, one unix machine, and one Windows 98 machine networked together that works very good. We added a new Windows ME machine with a 3Com 3c905c network card that needs to use the printer on the Windows 98 machine which has a 3 Com 3c509B-Combo isa in PNP mode, network card. The Windows ME machine and the rest of the network will not communicate. The ME machine will ping all the other machines, but none of the machines will ping the ME machine. Cannot connect the network printer on the Windows 98 machine. I have tried a 3Com 3c905B card in the ME machine and it operates the same as the 3c905c. Any sugestions?

Starting with the mundane....
Are all the machines on the same subnet?
Is the subnet mask the same?
Is file and printer sharing enabled on the 98?
Are there any share permissions that interfere?
Is NetBeui being used? Without a wins server, you must have Netbeui to use computernames.
Have you tried an lmhosts file on the 98 (not sure what or if the equivalent is in Unix\Linux) to resolve pings?

Just setting a starting point....
