I have a 98 Workstation that I cannot view from specific computers on the network. The workstation name is under 7 characters long, and can be viewed by other workstations. The IPs are specified, and the properties in network neighborhood are the same on each workstation. Any suggestions?

do you have a PDC? if so, check the WINS database... if not, then make sure you create LMHOSTS files in the windows directories on all computers... for help on creating lmhosts files, view the LMHOSTS.TXT in the windows directory... Shane
and now for the impressive abbreviations:
DOA, SOL, AWOL, PEBKAC, id10t, FUBAR

I am not running WINS. I can read every computer except for 2, both start with the letter "a" all the other computer can connect to the ones that I cannot see. I can ping the ip address using dos and it comes back also. I am clueless. I have just installed a new NIC to eliminate that along with changed the port. Let me know, thank you.

What ip addressing scheme are you using including the subnet mask and gateway? Since you can ping the router may be resolving the address on a subnetted mask to it's native mask and reply but Windows sees it as a different network.

Have you checked for spaces in your workgroup name, caps, etc.

Do you have any devices on the new machine shared? If you can see it but can't connect to it you may have forgotten to share the drive.

I know they are all simple things, but you have to start somewhere!
