Network Monitoring Suggestions

Hello,
Not sure if this is the best forum. But anyway...

I'd like some suggestions for what's worked the best for others for monitoring LAN traffic.

I have a T1 serving mostly Internet access. I'd like to be able to monitor total WAN bandwidth usage as well as individual bandwidth usage.

What sort of support do routers have for this? Will I need a separate server or h/w device?

I know there are lots of 3rd party solutions out there, but I'd just like get some opinions first.

The monitoring of the routers is usually by SNMP or Netflow (Cisco). All (or nearly all) routers would have SNMP available to pull stats off.

A couple of other apps that may be of interest. Solarwinds is good but costs. PRTG has a free version but I havent tried it(yet).
