Network Monitoring Software

I hope I’m in the right forum for this if not I apologize, I am looking for a network monitoring software that maybe some here has used or is using, I have a small LAN with 8 servers 130 nodes, I want to monitor the entire LAN's activity and look for any latency, broken links, lost connections and identify possible problems. I have searched and found a couple that will do the trick, but they are really expensive 12k for nimbus,as you can tell we are small company and we don’t have that in budget…

Have you looked at at the Ipswitch "Whats Up for Small Business" product? It's obviously far more limited than something like a Sniffer but is inexpensive and widely used for broad overview type monitoring in small networks.

I would try a combination of;

http://www.Lookatlan.com

and

http://www.Ethereal.org

For LookatLan to work propoerly you need SNMP enabled on your PC's/servers..
