Network Mac (OS X) vv SGI (Irix)

I am trying to connect my Powerbook G4 with my SGI O2 (IRIX) or vice versa via Ethernet. The Apple Share Application from Xinet (for the SGI) allowed me to do so (from O2 to my former Mac (PB G3)).
I now can setup a ethernet connection also (the AppleShare File Server is recognized) but when it comes to enter user name and password (I enter my Mac admin user ID and PW) there is no validation.
Can anyone help to connect either way from/to SGI/Mac?
