MY
I'm using Openserver 5.06 on a HP DL380 G3 machine. This system comes with dual Broadcom gigabyte adapters. My problem is that after about 3-4 hours the system fails to reckonize it's default gateway. What I mean is that I can connect to it from machines on the same subnet but can't from anywhere else. The machine also fails to ping the gateway ip. If I flush the arp table all starts working again. I have created a cron job to do this to get around the problem.

Anyone have any ideas

Thanks in advance

Is this machine acting as a gateway?

If not then don't let routed start.

You could also check the routing tables before and after the failure

netstat -nr

to see if they have changed (they won't if routed is not running,..... well generally not...).

This machine is not running as a gateway and routed is not running.

Have you had a chance to check the routing table before/after the failure?

In the arp table....is the mac associated to your gateway changing?

...hmm
what you need to find out is what the state of the arp table is after the failure has occurred, then we can try and pinpoint what is causing the problem.

IP -> mac resolution
name -> IP resolution
route to IP destination

If clearing the arp table resets the failure then that is where to start looking. Is this machine static or does it use DHCP? maybe your failure is a remote dns or something external to the box that is changing and your system is caching old information.

Stan,

I have had some advice from my network guys and they beleive it is something to do with sco's incampatibility with hsrp. I beleive this is something to do with redundant routers. The servers are configured with static IP's
