My labtop does not release renew its IP address automatically. The company I work for has a security system which makes sure a device is compliant before giving it access to the production zone. This is how it works. Upon cable disconnection the switch port on which the device is plugged into changes vlan. Example : Switchport goes from vlan 10 to vlan 110. When the connection is reestablished, the labtop should be givven an IP address in the same vlan as the switch port. (172.16.110.52). As this happenes a client application on the labtop runs and checks for complience. Once the labtop is declared compliant the switch port switches to the production zone 10 forces the PC to release renew and get an IP address in this zone (172.16.10.214).

My problem is that when I reconnect the labtop it takes the last address it had without using DHCP. There is no communication because as the labtop has an address like this (172.16.10.214), the switch port has a vlan 110. No communication. This might not be very well explained but anyway, the main issue seems to be that the labtop isn't automatically releasing and renewing its IP address. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

do you logoff before cable disconnection?
do you logon at reconnection?
what when u do a release renew in command line when reconnected?
is the vlan tagging correct after reconnection (on the laptop)?
