What are the private and public network interfaces used for on the MAS servers? If I use QSIG/DS1 for the connection to my PBX, what's the network interfaces used for? 3.1 system with 2 mas, 1 mss and 1 mn

Quick answer: Private connections allow the MSS/MAS' to talk with each other over a locally provided (by Avaya) ethernet hub. The public obviously interfaces to your LAN...

got it.. reason being the publics NIC light is out and our network guys see no data going over it, but the system is behaving fine. the only thing I can't do it RDP to the server. I think it's a bad patch cable. If I swapped this, is there going to be any impact?

If it's not connected now - then there would be no impact, rather improvement for networking messages to other sites (if you have other sites,) Web Client access, Outlook or Lotus thick clients integrations & RDP...
