Does anyone know of a way to monitor a network interface to see if it is auto negotiating from 100TX to 10BT and back.
We are having flaky network problems and I am trying to pin them down. Says the Manager to the person that invented the modem: "Tell me again why you need two prototypes?!?"

slgordon,

There is not really an easy way to do this - but in AIX 4.3.2 I would always force the card to 100 full as auto-neg can be a bit up and down, possibily this is the reason you are having problems. I would first of all change the n/w card to 100 full and then monitor entstat ifname - look for dropped packets if you start to get a lot of dropped packets then the port will only be running at 10 MBS....In my experience it is always a n/w configuration problem on the hub ports 99% of the time.

gordon,

check the settings at router switch/hub end, also try netstat -v , try with other flags. It might solve your problem.

Thanks guys! We found it to be a network problem, I just had to prove it. Says the Manager to the person that invented the modem: "Tell me again why you need two prototypes?!?"
