I have a small network, Win XP, going to a switch, then a router to a T1 line.
One system has trouble staying up on the network. It can access the web after rebooting, but after a short time it will drop and cannot access the web or POP3 mailbox.
When this happens, I can ping the router, 192.168.0.1, but cannton go to the web.
Any ideas?
Thanks, Dave

Have you tried placing that machine on a separate port? If not try that, then try to replace any cabling to make sure nothing is flaky. Once you've cleared those hurdles, check your XP machine to make sure your IP information is being delegated properly. If you're on a dreaded Dell and using a dreaded Broadcomm card, try reinstalling the card in control panel/system/device manager/* . If that is done and it still fails, make sure your router has the correct configuration in place.

Dreaded Dell? How did you know. I did change the port and it has run better today. Only had to reboot once, in the AM. Ran the rest of the day.
As for the router all 5 of the other pc's work fine.

Check in Device Manager the Properties of the network adapter. Many have a feature that allows the card to be placed in standby mode if idle to save energy. Disable this feature.
