Hi,

I have problems with installing my network card for adsl, and I can't go on internet. (I am talking about my other computer, of course :)
The computer that can't go on the net runs on Windows 2000. But I will talk about the "structure of my ADSL conection".
I got an ADSL modem. A computer (the one im using to post on this forum) and a wireless ADSL Boardband router are directly connected to it. Connected to the router is another computer (the one that can't go on the net, and it has a Network Card) and a laptop.

The computer that cant go on the net is running on Windows 2000, as said before. It is using a Network Everywhere Fast Ethernet 10/100 Network Card. The floppy driver disc that is provided with this Network card is: model NC100 Version 2.1

The problem is that I can't install the network card. I went to a list of hardware stuff from "Add a Hardware wizard" in Control panel, and found a Network adaptor with a question mark sign beside it. I tried to install the driver for it, but the computer can't find the driver in the win2000 folder in the floppy disc. *sigh*

What can I do to solve this problem? I have been searching on google for a win2000 driver for my card, but never found it. What should I do?

Thanks.

Do the installation from device manager.

See if the card is listed at all. If it is listed, check its properties, Driver, Driver details to see what the name of the driver W2k is expecting to find, and the path.

Then go here and download the ADMTek driver for card:

Try to do a driver update using "Have Disk" and the downloaded driver. If it still acts up, copy the downloaded .sys file to c:\winnet\system32 and then rename it to the driver name you saw under the properties of the device.

Often an old .inf file will list an out-of-date driver name and insist that you use it but it cannot be found. Copy the driver file and rename it whatever it wanted.

Hi, thanks for the reply. The "Driver details" part was greyed out and so clicking it won't work. What should I do? I went on and try to use the "have disk" function, but it dones't recongize the driver. Btw, i downloaded the "AN983B(L) PCI Ethernet Windows ME/2000 drivers (Microsoft certified)" off the site you gave me. So now what should i do?

Thanks

Uninstall any appearance of the Lan adapter in Device Manager. It may appear in the "Other" catagory.

Look on the files you downloaded and expanded.
There will be a driver file, likely ADM9X.SYS, an netadm9x.inf file and a .cat file. Make sure you are certain of the directory path for theses files. If they are on a floppy place them in the root to make it easier.

Reboot.

If the Found New Hardware Wizard appears, tell it not to install new hardware.

Go to Control Panel, Add New Hardware, Do not search for new devices, Yes the device is already installed, choose network adapters from the list, do the HAVE DISK, specify location and point to the A floppy and the .inf file located there. It should now read the .inf, the .cat and show you the adapter on the screen. Click Next and you are done.

I had the same problem on one of my machines, it would not install from the floppy so I just used the floppy from my other machine and no problems, which lead me to the conclusion that I had a bad floppy. LOL

bcastner, I can't really find the part where you said 'Do not search for new devices, Yes the device is already installed.' I went to Control Panel, then Add/Remove Hardware Wizard. Then I pressed next, and the only choices are Add/Troubleshoot device and Uninstall/Unplug a device. is a good representation :(

Just try the install with the ADM drivers as a new device then.

You might also look on the Network Everywhere site and see if there is a newer driver than what your received. The drivers was updated in December 2002 I believe.
