Network Edition S-Tool - Network Scan Problem

Can anyone tell me how the network scan feature of the s-tool works when scanning for machines on a domain. The reason I ask is that yesterday when I scanned the network looking for new machines that need AVG pushed out to them it only returned 33 machines. It has been returning the 500+ that are on our domain. So something has changed and I am trying to figure out what. I do not know if it uses DNS or Active Directory or both to find the machines. Oh yea, scanning using an IP range works just fine.
