I have Windows 95/98 workstations and they should preserve the network drive mapping- Some users hit "Cancel" when logging in for the first time and they lose their mapping.

My question is -can I set up these workstations so they will preserve the mapping even when they hit "Cancel" and they don't autheticate to the server?????

I tried with POLEDIT using the windows.adm template but it does not allow you to cancel to get into the machine because you have to autheticate to the server otherwise you can not get in the system (win 95/98) if you're planning to use the workstation as standalone machine.

Help!! this is URGENT! if you know any software application that will do it or any setup please let me know. THANKS

you can create a logon.bat file and copy it to each hard disk of the PC's, and set it to run when you log on...ie, put a shortcut to it in the startup folder of the 'all users' folder...(do a search and you will find it!!)
To make this file, create a new notepad text file, but give it the name of 'mapdrive.bat' and not .txt, then save it on a floppy. Next right click on the file and go to Edit, notepad will open up and type in here something to this effect....with the first line of the text to be the 'echo' one, and SERVER to be your server name and the folder to be the next word after the \ then save the file.

@echo on

NET USE L: \\SERVER\WORK

NET USE M: \\SERVER\ACCOUNTS

NET USE N: \\SERVER\APPLICATIONS

NET USE O: \\SERVER\SALES

NET USE P: \\SERVER\TECHNICAL

NET USE Q: \\SERVER\EMAIL

and thats it, each time this is run it will create the drives with the letter you specified...
see this pic for an exact example.....

I use lantastic and find that it is easier to work with for this type of connection. Others don't like it. Ed Fair

just go into the network neighborhood properties... double-click on the item called "Client for Microsoft Networks", and in that dialog box, change the setting to Quick Logon. Shane
and now for the impressive abbreviations:
DOA, SOL, AWOL, PEBKAC, id10t, FUBAR

If it's OK to just autologon, then:

And finally, if all else fails:

Try #3 first, it may do the trick alone, if not go through the following steps.

1. Go to Start>Find>Files & Folders... type in *.pwl and delete all .pwl files in c:\windows

2. Go to start>Run, type sysedit. Maximize the system.ini
Delete all lines under
[Password Lists]

3. Go to ControlPanel>Network
Choose Windows Logon as Primary Login

Reboot

You should now get the login box one last time. Type in your name. Just click OK for no password.

Not yet, try:
Backup the registry and/or export the following keys:
go to Start>Run, type regedit. Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\current version\network\real mode netRight-click on Real Mode Net, choose new>Binary value, name it AutoLogon
and give it a value of 01 00 00 00.

Or
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Network\Logon
If there is an entry named MustBeValidated and it has a value of 01 00 00 00, change it to 00 00 00 00.
