Network documents to recycle bin when deleted

is there a way to configure windows XP or Server 2003 to send deleted documents or folders to the recycle bin, either on the local workstation or on the server it's stored on?
 
Short answer,

No.

The network shares are being access remotely and as such don't go to the "normal" recycle bins when they are deleted. To accomplish what you're looking for, you would need to get a third party application that stores the deleted files in a "network" recycle bin. The application is then, generally, accessed via the server to restore recently deleted files.
