Hello,
I am planning to implement a public wireless access point. After long considerations on security and price I think I am going to go with a redhat 7.3 vpn server (with poptop), a firewall (probably ipcop or smoothwall) inbetween the redhat server and the public wireless network(firewall 1) and another firewall inbetween the internet and the redhat server(firewall 2). The clients are (of coarse) going to be windows machines.
Can anyone think of any complications I might run into?
1) I have heard I might have to do pptp pass-through? Or what ports will I have to open to do this, 1723, 80 on firewall 1? (see above for description of firewall numbers) (I would like to be able to close all unneccecary ports including icmp and disable syn packets, except of coarse for the pptp and http traffic.
2) I will be able to add the user names to the Redhat server to be authenticated?
3) Also which box would be the best to be the proxy? The RedHat serv or Firewall 2?(I think firewall 2)
Any other considerations in this matter will be greatly appreciated.
