Hello:

I would like to get some advice on how to improve LAN communications between two building. We use Catalyst 2950. Network traffic is really slow. Any suggestion?

One possiblity is to split your traffic up across a few vlans. So if you have say, finance, marketing, sales then you would create three vlans to segregate the network traffic.

What type of links (and how many) do you have between your 2950's? If you only have a single link, you can bundle in multiple LAN links into an EtherChannel to build 1 big pipe between your switches. A few weeks ago I setup two GIGE links between 2 switches, and set them up in an EtherChannel... otherwise the spanning tree kills your 2nd link because it detects a switching loop.

I have only one link between the two switches. I will check out the EtherChannel. Thanks.

Etherchannel should not be killed by spanning tree , the channel is looked upon as 1 link and thus 1 side would "not" get shut down. Look at the utilization on the link and see if it is high , also look for any errors on each end . Make sure the link config is set the same on both ends . If you hardcode the speed and duplex on one end , hardcode it on the other end also. Do you see any dropped ping responses across the link ????
